Ted's red Tesla Model Y came to Vertical Doors, Inc. in Lake Elsinore, California, for a vertical Lambo door conversion in April 2026. Our team installed the VDCTESY20 Vertical Door Conversion Kit, retaining the original Tesla front doors while converting their movement to open outward first, then raise vertically.
This Model Y already had plenty of details worth noticing: red paint, black multi-spoke wheels, red brake calipers, tinted windows, rear quarter-window louvers, and a rear spoiler. With both front doors raised, the finished installation brings another element to the build. In October 2026, Ted sent us an update that made us smile: his Tesla hasn't stopped turning heads.

Omar Demonstrates How the Tesla Model Y Vertical Doors Work
One of the most common questions we hear is how a driver closes a vertical door while sitting inside the vehicle. Rather than just showing the finished installation, Omar demonstrates the process on Ted's Tesla Model Y.
In the video, Omar shows how the doors open outward before lifting vertically. He also demonstrates lowering the driver's door and closing it from the seated position.
The outward-first movement is an important part of the design. The doors can be opened outward for everyday entry and exit without lifting them vertically every time.
Watch Omar demonstrate the VDCTESY20 conversion, including how to raise, lower, and close the Tesla Model Y front doors from inside and outside the vehicle.
A Closer Look at Ted's Red Tesla Model Y
The April installation photos show the red Model Y with black multi-spoke wheels and matching red brake calipers. The dark window tint, black exterior trim, and rear quarter-window louvers complement the sloping roofline, while the rear spoiler adds another custom detail.
From the driver-side profile, the raised front door makes it easy to see how the conversion retains the original door shape and window glass. The black front seat is visible through the doorway, and the original rear door remains closed.
This is also a good example of how a vertical door conversion can work with a customer's existing exterior modifications without replacing the factory front door panels.
How the Tesla Model Y Vertical Door Conversion Works
Our VDCTESY20 conversion replaces the factory front-door hinges with vehicle-specific Vertical Doors, Inc. hinges while retaining the original doors, glass, and interior panels.
The door opens outward first, then raises vertically with gas shock assistance. When closing the door, it is lowered completely to its outward-opening position before being brought inward.
Proper installation includes door support and alignment, access to the mounting areas, required clearance work, wiring considerations, and checking door movement throughout its operating range.
