VDCTESX16 is the Vertical Doors, Inc. vehicle-specific Vertical Door Conversion Kit for the 2016-2026 Tesla Model X. This kit converts the conventional front driver and passenger doors while retaining the original front doors, glass, latches, interior panels, and factory Falcon Wing rear doors.
After installation, each converted front door opens outward first and then raises vertically. This product is also commonly described as a Tesla Model X Lambo door kit or scissor door kit.
Coordinate the Front Doors With the Model X Falcon Wing Rear Doors
The Tesla Model X already has one of the most recognizable door layouts on the road because of its factory Falcon Wing rear doors. The VDCTESX16 conversion adds vertical movement to the two conventional front doors, creating a coordinated four-door display without replacing or modifying the operating design of the rear Falcon Wing doors.

2016-2026 Tesla Model X Fitment
This kit is designed for the 2016-2026 Tesla Model X range listed by Vertical Doors, Inc.
The Model X range used different battery, drivetrain, performance, and naming configurations during these years, including 75D, 90D, 100D, P100D, Long Range, Performance, and Plaid designations. These names help identify the vehicle but do not replace confirmation of the exact model year, front-door equipment, and VDI kit version.
Important fitment note: Model X front-door equipment and body details changed during the listed production range. Before ordering, confirm the model year, front-door configuration, and whether the vehicle has self-presenting front doors. If VDI has directed you to a different Model X kit version, confirm the correct part number before purchasing.
Contact Vertical Doors, Inc. before ordering if the vehicle has aftermarket fenders, custom bodywork, previous collision repair, replacement hinges, or another modification near the front hinge and fender area.

How the Model X Vertical Door Conversion Works
After installation, open the converted Model X front door outward until it reaches the hinge system's stopping point, then raise it vertically. The gas shock assists during the upward movement.
The conversion applies only to the front doors. The factory Falcon Wing rear-door system retains its original operation.
Installation Requirements
The VDI hinge system is designed around the vehicle's factory hinge area. Bolt-on describes the vehicle-specific mounting design; it does not mean the installation is modification-free. Installation commonly requires body-panel removal, non-visible trimming or clearance work, wiring management, and careful final alignment.
Front-fender removal is a standard step used to reach the factory hinge area. Most vehicles also require door-panel removal to access the door wiring and obtain additional wire slack. The factory wire boot is cut in half for routing, but the factory wires usually do not need to be cut. Inner-fender trimming is also part of the normal installation process, but it is not visible from the outside. Review How to Install Vertical Doors, Inc. Door Conversion Kits for an overview.
Before loosening or removing the original hinges, use 2-inch painter's tape to mark the door's factory alignment. Place tape across the door and adjacent body at several reference points, including near the hinges and firewall, then draw matching alignment lines across the tape. These marks help preserve the door's original horizontal and vertical position during installation.
Model X-specific installation note: The front upper corner of the interior door panel requires modification. On vehicles equipped with automatic self-presenting front doors, the front-door motor must be disconnected from the door and relocated as directed in the vehicle-specific installation instructions.
- Support each front door safely throughout the installation.
- Follow the supplied instructions for motor relocation, hinge stops, gas-shock installation, wiring, and panel clearance.
- Check front-door alignment, latch operation, weather sealing, wiring, motor clearance, and surrounding body panels before road use.
Because of the Model X front-door electronics, motor relocation, door-panel modification, and final alignment requirements, installation should be completed by an experienced automotive customization or body shop unless the installer is qualified to perform this work.
