This red Tesla Model Y came to Vertical Doors, Inc. in Lake Elsinore, California, for a Vertical Door Conversion Kit installation. Our team completed the conversion in April 2026 using part number VDCTESY20, retaining the original Tesla front doors while changing how they open.

The red exterior, black multi-spoke wheels, red brake calipers, tinted windows, rear quarter-window louvers, and rear spoiler give this Model Y a customized look. With both front doors raised, the conversion changes the vehicle's side profile. Omar also demonstrates how to operate the doors from outside and from the driver's seat.

Omar Demonstrates How the Tesla Model Y Doors Work

Omar from Vertical Doors, Inc. demonstrates the front vertical door conversion on this red Tesla Model Y. The video shows how the doors open outward, lift vertically, and return to their normal closed position.

He also gets inside the Tesla to demonstrate lowering and closing the driver's door from the seated position. This gives Model Y owners a closer look at the actual door movement, beyond simply seeing the finished vehicle with both doors raised.

The converted doors first open outward to the hinge system's designed stopping point. From there, the gas shocks assist with lifting the doors vertically. To close them, lower the door completely before bringing it inward.

Watch Omar demonstrate how to open, raise, lower, and close the Tesla Model Y vertical doors, including operation from the driver's seat.

The Details on This Red Tesla Model Y

The red paint contrasts with the black wheels and dark exterior trim. Red brake calipers are visible through the wheel spokes, while the tinted windows complement the black roofline and window surrounds.

At the rear, the quarter-window louvers and spoiler add another detail to the Model Y's sloping profile. The factory rear doors remain unchanged, while the front doors now have the ability to lift above the front fenders.

From the side, the raised driver's door reveals the black front seat and open doorway. The original door shape and glass remain intact, showing how the conversion changes the door movement without replacing the exterior door panels.

How the Tesla Model Y Vertical Door Conversion Works

The Vertical Doors, Inc. VDCTESY20 kit replaces the original front-door hinge system with vehicle-specific vertical door hinges. The original Tesla doors, glass, and interior panels remain in place.

Each front door opens outward first before being lifted vertically. This outward-first movement allows the doors to be used without raising them every time the vehicle is entered or exited.

Installation involves accessing the factory hinge mounting areas, performing the clearance work identified in the vehicle-specific instructions, managing the wiring harness, and adjusting the doors for proper alignment and operation.
