How Does the Vertical Door Conversion Work?
The conversion replaces the factory hinge system while retaining the original Corvette doors.
Open the door outward until it reaches the hinge system's stopping point. From there, raise the door vertically. The included gas shock assists with the weight of the door during the upward movement.
You do not have to raise the door every time you enter or exit the car. The initial outward movement provides room for entry and exit before the door is lifted.
Vertical Door Kit vs. ZLR: This product uses the traditional Vertical Doors, Inc. movement. The door opens outward first and then raises vertically. The Corvette C8 ZLR Door Conversion Kit moves the original door outward and upward diagonally in one continuous motion.
Does Installation Require Modification?
Yes. This is a vehicle-specific bolt-on hinge conversion, but bolt-on does not mean modification-free.
- The Vertical Doors, Inc. hinge mounts at the factory hinge locations.
- The original Corvette doors are retained.
- Fender removal is required during installation.
- A non-visible portion of the fender or inner-fender area must be trimmed as needed for hinge-arm clearance.
- Wiring must have enough movement and clearance through the complete range of door travel.

Mark the Factory Door Position Before Removing the Original Hinges
Before loosening the original hinges, mark the factory door position. Painter's tape can be placed across the door and adjacent body at several reference points, then marked so the original horizontal and vertical alignment can be referenced during installation.
If you are not comfortable with door alignment, fender removal, trimming, wiring clearance or hinge adjustment, use an experienced installer.
