How the Mustang Vertical Door Conversion Works
Open the door outward to the hinge system's designed stopping point, then lift it vertically. The gas shock assists the upward movement. To close the door, lower it completely before swinging it inward.
This is the traditional vertical-door movement commonly called Lambo doors or scissor doors. Correct hinge adjustment, wiring clearance, and door alignment are essential to proper operation.
Installation Requirements for the S650 Mustang
The kit uses a vehicle-specific mounting design, but installation involves more than swapping hinges. It requires body-panel access, secure door support, wiring management, clearance work, and careful alignment.
Mustang Fender Brackets
The S650 application requires drilling and fitting the supplied upper and lower fender brackets. Follow the VDCFM24 instructions for bracket placement, hardware, and required clearances.
Panel Clearance, Wiring and Alignment
Front-fender removal provides access to the hinge area. Door-panel removal may be needed to access the wiring and obtain slack. Follow the supplied instructions for wire-boot routing and any non-visible inner-fender trimming. Do not assume that bolt-on mounting means no trimming, drilling, or adjustment.
Record the factory door position before removing the original hinges. After installation, check door gaps, latch engagement, wiring, weather sealing, and clearance through the full opening and closing movement.
