How the Model Y Vertical Doors Operate
Open the converted front door outward to the hinge system's designed stopping point, then raise it vertically. The gas shock assists the upward movement. To close, lower the door completely before moving it inward.
Does Installation Require Modification?
Yes. The kit uses a vehicle-specific bolt-on mounting design, but bolt-on does not mean modification-free. Installation still involves body-panel removal, door support and alignment, wiring management, clearance work and final adjustment. Follow the instructions supplied with VDCTESY20 for your vehicle.
- Access: The Model Y procedure includes front-fender removal and removal of the front frunk tub and related trim to reach the required fasteners.
- Door alignment: Record and mark the original door position before loosening the factory hinges. Support the door throughout the hinge replacement.
- Clearance: Complete the inner-fender trimming and other clearance work identified in the instructions.
- Wiring: Follow the specified harness routing and slack requirements. Verify that wiring remains free from tension, pinching and abrasion throughout door travel.
- Final checks: Verify door gaps, latch operation, weather sealing, electrical functions and panel clearance before using the vehicle.
Mark the Factory Door Position Before Removing the Hinges
Place painter's tape across the door and adjacent body at several reference points, then draw matching alignment marks. These marks help you compare the converted door position with its original alignment during installation.
An experienced automotive builder may be able to complete the installation. If body-panel removal, door alignment, trimming or wiring protection is outside your experience, choose professional installation.
