Corvette C8 Vertical Door Kit Install: Fender Bracket Trimming Explained

Proper fender bracket trimming is an important part of a clean Vertical Doors, Inc. installation. This step helps the hinge sit correctly against the vehicle while allowing the fender to be properly supported with the supplied replacement bracket.

Our installer is in the process of modifying the factory fender support bracket in preparation for the Vertical Doors, Inc. vertical door kit installation.

 

First, install the two self tapping screws into the bracket. Once the bracket is secured, trim it carefully with a die grinder. Both lower brackets need to be trimmed because these are the original fender supports, and they interfere with the hinge sitting properly against the vehicle.

 

After trimming the lower bracket, move to the upper fender support area. This is where the factory fender originally attached. There are two layers in this section: the outer bracket piece and the silver inner bracket. Cut horizontally and work carefully around the wiring. Be very careful not to cut the wire, because damaging that wire can create unnecessary electrical issues.

 

Once the upper bracket is trimmed, you will also need to trim the corner of the remaining bracket section.

 

Vertical Doors, Inc. includes a replacement fender support bracket with the kit. This supplied bracket connects to the factory bracket location and supports the fender after the original support area has been modified. Use the “U nut” and screw as shown.

The screw passes through the supplied bracket and secures to the original bracket location, while the fender attaches to the new support bracket.

 

Do not fully install this bracket until after the hinge has been installed. We are showing it here first so you can clearly understand how the replacement fender support bracket works.

 

After trimming, use the original bolt and the supplied U nut. Be sure to grind all cut edges for a smooth finish and to remove any sharp edges that could cause injury during installation.

 

Grind both the upper and lower bracket areas where the cuts were made. Once the edges are smooth, cover the exposed metal with touch up paint. This creates a cleaner finished look and helps prevent rust and corrosion.
